Join us for the kickoff of the “We the Publics…” Civic Arts series, featuring Imani Perry, Reuben Jonathan Miller, and Omo Moses.
The “We the Publics…” Civic Arts initiative, which includes an ongoing series supported by MacArthur Foundation X-Grant, kicks off at Civic Arts Church with an interdisciplinary exploration of land, labor, history, and policy. The inaugural event features MacArthur Fellows Imani Perry, Emmanuel Pratt, and Reuben Jonathan Miller, alongside educator and activist Omo Moses. Together, they provide an intersectional platform to unpack how knowledge is constructed through the lenses of regenerative design, systemic justice, and educational empowerment. This opening session establishes the series's core themes of freedom and overcoming, setting the stage for a year of collaborative inquiry.
Each featured talk serves as a catalyst for creative action, inspiring new artworks, writings, and built projects that will be showcased in seasonal, multimedia exhibitions. These installations will be paired with rich documentation—such as film, audio, and asset maps—to explore "cultural placekeeping" and transform community insights into a vibrant, interactive public record.
